It is indeed my pleasure and pride to head the department of Information Technology (IT). B.Tech. IT has become exceptionally well performing program from last few decades. The department offers four years B-Tech IT degree program with an intake of 60 students per year. The department has well qualified, highly experienced and motivated faculty members, who seek to combine excellence in education and research by producing budding technocrats with technical knowledge and value-based education. The department has highly motivated faculty who upgrades their skills according to the industry needs which helps them to prepare students industry ready. There is a high demand by the top IT companies for IT students to get recruited.

The Department has produced hundreds of professionals and has established a name for itself in the country and abroad. Our students excel in Higher Education, Government Jobs, Research and Development and Entrepreneurship. The scope of IT in practice is immense in various fields like: Data Mining, Data Science, Data Analytics, Testing, Smart Computing, Multimedia, Geographic Information System, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Networking, Cloud Computing, Mobile Applications etc.

Program Outline

The B.Tech. in Information Technology program is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and offers Choice Based Credit System education. The aim of this program is to prepare a professionally competent student with technological leadership skills ready to work in a multidisciplinary work environment across the globe.

The Information Technology Department offers stimulating learning opportunities to students through strong research publications, working on real time projects and participation in other industry initiatives. Many consultancy projects are currently underway as a part of industry-academia collaboration initiatives.

Students are groomed through Outcome Based Education to face various challenges in the industry. Undergraduate Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Information Technology is aligned with All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and is globally benchmarked. The total credits students’ needs to complete B.Tech IT degree are 163 and are usually completed in 4 academic years. Organised an International Conference on Smart Innovations in Design, Environment, Management, Planning and Computing (ICSIDEMPC 2020), 30-31, October 2020.

ICSIDEMPC-2020 was organized to provide an international forum that brings together those who are actively involved in the areas of interest, to report on up-to-the-minute innovations and developments, to summarize the state-of-the-art, to exchange ideas and advances in all aspects of Intelligent Systems and Information Management, technologies and applications.

The concept of smart cities has spurred research and development in the domain of smart innovation i.e. sensor technology, data analytics, energy efficient planning and development, and decision making. Sensor technology is applicable in several domains of engineering, such as Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, where the development of sensors is pioneered by the Electronics Engineering. Such sensors are applicable in and for environmental audit and pollution monitoring, understanding of structural health e.g. bridges, dams and tectonic movements, efficient planning and monitoring of sensor networks through data analytics in the spatial and temporal domains and monitoring of engines related to performance, temperature and wear and tear. The objectives of the conference was to provide opportunities for the researchers, academicians, industry people and students to interact and exchange ideas, to serve as a forum to present and plan future work as well as to exchange research ideas in the field of smart innovations in Design, Environment, Management, Planning and Computing and to focus on innovative issues at international level by bringing the experts from different countries together.

We began our day at 1000 hrs with the inauguration ceremony which was virtually attended by more than 250 attendees, which included the delegates who registered for the conference. The conference was also telecasted live on Facebook via the official channel of MGM University. Prof. Monica S. A. Oliveira, from the University of Aveiro, Portugal attended the conference as a chief guest. Dr. A. K. Nayak, the immediate past president of the Computer Society of India, and Er. Narendra Singh, the President, Institution of Engineers (India). Prof. Monica S. A. Oliveira stressed on the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way of education, and it requires academicians and scientists would need to think differently to innovate.

Prof. A. K. Nayak talked about the importance of Computer Science and Information Technology in the emergent domains in the current scenario. Er. Narendra Singh stressed on the need of AI, IoT and Blockchain technologies in the different disciplines of Engineering. Keynote speeches were delivered by Dr. Monica S. A. Oliveira, from the University of Aveiro, Portugal and Dr. Mahesh P. Abegaonkar from IIT Delhi on Injection Moulding and 5G antennas, respectively. On the first day, papers were presented on four different tracks in two parallel sessions each in the pre-lunch and post-lunch sessions. The sessions were judged for quality by the faculty members from inside and outside the University.

Day 1: 26th February 2021
We started our day at 10:30 am in the presence of Hon. Shri A. N. Kadam, Chancellor, MGM University, Aurangabad, Shri P. S. Borade, Trustee, MGM, Dr. Sudhir Gavhane, Vice Chancellor, MGM University, Aurangabad, Dr. Ashish Gadekar, Registrar, MGM University, Aurangabad, Dr. H. H. Shinde, Dean, Engineering and Technology, MGM University and Principal, JNEC and Dr V B Musande, Vice Principal, JNEC Aurangabad, and extended a warm welcome to our Guests Dr A K Nayak, Advisor of IIBM Group of institutions and Former President, CSI, Dr. Durgesh Kumar Mishra Director and Professor (CSE) & Founder Director, Microsoft Innovation Centre, Sri Aurobindo Institute of Technology, Indore, MP, India, Dr.Kamal Kumar Sethi Professor & Head, CSE, Acropolis Institute of Technology & Research, Indore, Dr. Xavier Chelladurai Director, HRDC and Professor, CSE, Christ Deemed to be University, Bangalore with more than 90 attendees, which included the participants who registered for the workshop. The workshop was also telecasted live on MGM University’s Facebook page via the official channel. The inauguration session was started with lighting a lamp followed by a welcome address by Convener Dr Sharvari C Tamane, Professor & HoD, IT, JNEC. She shared the goal of the workshop and the performance assessment opportunities to be provided by the experts through the workshop at national and International level for researchers, academicians, industry persons and students.

2nd Day
Second invited speech was by Dr. Xavier Chelladurai, Director, HRDC and Professor, CSE, Christ Deemed to be University, Bangalore on Face Recognition Algorithms and Applications. He discussed various algorithms in Face Recognition, Speech recognition, NLP, NLG, Robotics, Machine Translation and their Mathematical Foundations. He also discussed applications of these algorithms in different domains. He concluded his speech by discussing various case studies such as Craniofacial Anthropometry, Face signature, 2d face recognition techniques etc. First day of the workshop was very informative and educational. Many new insights in AI and ML were highlighted with their day to day practical implications. Participants very actively interacted with all speakers. The second day of the international workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning started with the invited speech by Dr Malaya Nayak, Fellow, Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), UK on Machine Learning. He explained various concepts about machine learning such as data collection, data verification, resource monitoring, feature extraction and process management. He also discussed the professional & ethical responsibilities along with trusted Artificial Intelligence and Opensource policies in Artificial Intelligence. This was followed by Second invited talk by Dr Prashant Nair, Chairman, IQAC, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore. He had very beautifully explained differences between data science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning. He introduced PROLOG software to the audience which is a very helpful tool for carrying out research in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Dr. S S Sonawne, Director, School of Mechatronics Engineering of Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (SSPU), Pune, in his keynote address had introduced IoT technology challenges in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. He also explained the IoT, as an anytime, anyplace and anything technology which will be the future of smart innovations. He gave insights about the intersection of IoT with AI and ML i.e. IOIT which are creating wonders in various fields such as Health care, Finance, and day to day lives with personal assistants like Alexa and Siri. The analysis of the workshop feedback forms (received yesterday from participants) showed that the event was very well received as a valuable, stimulating and enjoyable day, particularly for making contact with PhD researchers, learning about on-going projects, and inspiring individuals’ commitment in pursuing their own research objectives. From the participants perspective, the event provided a great opportunity to address its aims related to bringing together information about current trends in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and many more topics in the country. Added to this, discussions during the day – particularly in the sessions, have helped identify priority areas for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Facial Recognition, Digital Twin, Transfer Learning, IoT, and Smart Innovations in the coming months. Thanks to Dr Ashish Gadekar, Registrar, MGM University Aurangabad, for being with us in the valedictory function, it was honor for us for being available for us. Organised an OctoHack Challenge event by JNEC Red Hat Academy (RHA) for CSE/IT/MCA/ECT students during 3rd October to 10th October 2020.

The Red Hat Academy of JNEC organised an OctoHack Challenge event that was a mix of coding and Hackathon aimed at students form all branches of MGM’s JNEC. Event details were published to all departments of the institution through official channels and social media. The event was split into 2 rounds. The participants were asked to join in groups of 2. A total of 37 teams registered using the invite link and 28 teams participated in the first round. The participants were asked to join a Discord server created for this event for communication. The details of each round:

• Round 1(Coding Round): In this round all the students registered completed in a coding competition. 8 teams were selected from this round to compete in the final Hackathon round.
• Round 2 (Hackathon): The selected 8 Teams were asked to prepare a project on the topic COVID-19, the participants got 1 week to prepare the project and present it to a panel of Judges (Faculty and Organizers). The winning Team was selected as the winners of the event.

Our Head of the department, Dr S.C. Tamane was invited to present a webinar, on 03-06-2020, in the free online FDP on "emerging Technologies in Engineering" on DWDM in E-Governance Applications organized by Malla Reddy College of Engineering (MRCE), Hyderabad, during 1st June to 6th June 2020.

A Three Days Workshop on “Blockchain Fundamentals”

A Three Days Workshop on “Blockchain Fundamentals” was organised from 2nd July to 4th July 2019. The speakers of the session were Mr. Gaurav Somwanshi, (Future Leader, British Council) and Mr. Ganesh Anantwar, (Associate, J. P. Morgan) and participants were faculty and students from the various engineering colleges affiliated to Dr. B.A.T.U., Lonere.

Contents: Introduction & History of Blockchain: Hype vs Reality, Nuts & Bolts of a Blockchain: How does Bitcoin work, Major Blockchain Platforms, Identification of Blockchain Use Cases, Real world examples of Blockchain, Consensus Algorithms & Blockchain Security, Blockchain Network Architecture Models, Understanding Multichain: Basic Concepts, What are Smart Contracts, The rise of Etherium.


An Induction program was conducted in the department for newly admitted first year students. In this program various activities were conducted for students like students aspirations and family expectation through which students can get an idea about how to handle aspirations and family expectations, peer pressure as per AICTE guidelines to make them aware of handling peer pressure and various sessions like Gratitude, Self and Body, Prosperity, KBC Game etc.

Study tour to ISRO NRSC-national Remote Sensing Center Hyderabad

ISRO is nations pride and taking students there is a true motivation for us. Department of IT organized a study tour to ISRO NRSC-National Remote Sensing Center, Hyderabad on 23rd sept 2019 for Third year students with dept. coordinators Ms. Vijaya Ahire Mr. Amol Mahadik, and Mr Yogesh Tayade. The objective of this visit was to explore research opportunities in the field of Remote sensing and GIS. Dr. Padmarani, Head, NRSC given presentation which was not only focused on various projects of ISRO but on: how ISRO founded?, contribution of legends like great scientists Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Dr. A P J Abdul kalam and the challenges ISRO faced. Students got knowledge of ISRO centers in INDIA and responsibilities they are carrying and contribution of ISRO in space mission.


Red Hat Academy (RHA) of JNEC received Gold Medal in the RHA CHALLENGE 2019 event held at DIETMS, Aurangabad. Raunak Borkar & Mr. Devendra Kulkarni of Red Hat Academy participated in ‘1st Open Source Conference, 2019’ and have won 1st Prize in the coding competition. Both of them won Amazon Kindle Paperwhite as a prize

Other Activities

  • Every year a one-week workshop on C/C++ language is conducted by the department faculty members for second year students to make concepts simpler

  • Department has maintained a well bond with its Alumni by inviting them for interactions with their juniors and to guide them about technical requirements of industry

  • To upgrade appetite knowledge and technical skills of student’s MATPO, InfyTQ and FNAT aptitude tests etc, are conducted in the department

  • To support overall development of students, a wall magazine activity “IT INFORIA” is carried out in the department regularly

  • For hands on practice on various subjects of engineering virtual lab sessions, online exams and certification programs are regularly conducted in the department

  • As a part of grooming extra-curricular skills of students, events like “FM Radio Kay Tashan Baaz” are organized regularly

  • To give the insight of the research work, local visits are regularly conducted to IT industries, research lab of Computer science and IT Dept. of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar University, IT Park Aurangabad, National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology Aurangabad etc.
