It’s my pleasure to welcome you to Chemical Engineering Department at the MGM University. The department was founded in 1983 and serve as an academic home to undergraduate and doctoral students. Department provide hands-on work experience to undergraduate students by placing them in a structured, multi-disciplinary projects and internships with local and national corporations. Chemical Engineering department is always in pursuit of excellence and recognize that students who become connected with current engineering practice and research areas, through participation in industrial internships and projects during their undergraduate years, tend to perform better and have a higher level of determination in their later professional life.
Research activities of our students are supported by the outstanding facilities available in the Department, process automation and additive manufacturing facility available at Innovation Incubation Research Centre (IIRC), Engineering Exploration Centre as well as interdisciplinary support from various engineering and science departments.
MGM University has an exciting time ahead as our country faces great scientific and technical challenges, and the solutions to many of which will be found by Chemical Engineers and it can be by you!

The Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Chemical Engineering degree program of study is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and offers choice based credit system education. In addition to core courses, student can opt for discipline specific elective subjects, open electives subjects from different institutes of the University. At the same time, this program is uniquely designed to increase the employability and to prepare students to work in a Multi-discipline work environment. To achieve this, program offers Major-Minor degree scheme wherein Major will be in core Chemical Engineering and Minor will be as per students interests.
To provoke independent thoughts in students and importance of team work, program also gives emphasis on outcome based education, design thinking process and cooperative education component involving Projects, Seminar, Internships and activity based learning. We aim and prepare students to be adaptable and industry-ready having competencies across range of technical and non-technical subjects. Chemical Engineers have continuously contributed and still are contributing to improve standard of living of the society through many sustainable processes and products. Therefore, we are sure that after completion of this program our students will be very well suited to serve in both industrial and service sector.
Mass Transfer operations laboratory aims to introduce students to working of unit operation equipments most commonly used in chemical process industries for separation of components from a mixture of components. Objective is to give hands-on training to students through Experiments so as to understand operations of process equipments. Students correlate fundamentals studied in theory to practical applications similar to actual plant operation
In Chemical reaction engineering laboratory students get hands-on experience of understanding and applying theories of reaction engineering and reactor design operations on a lab scale equipments. Students study reaction engineering phenomena on Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR), CSTR in series, batch reactor, Tubular or plug flow reactor etc. Student can also study reaction kinetics and reactor design on Process flowsheet simulation software CHEMCAD
This laboratory gives hand-on experience to students about various advanced separation process currently being used in the industry. Students develop the understanding of significance of application of one or more conventional separation techniques in combination reactive systems through experiments and/or simulation.
Students are introduced to various techniques of determining of quality of products obtained in an industry and how to control it. The methods studied in this lab during first and second year of studies are useful in analysing the samples of compounds obtained in various experiments throughout their studies.
Mechanical Operations Laboratory enables students to understand & study various mechanical operations involved in separation of solid particles of different sizes as well as solid-fluid system. Many equipments are available in the laboratory such as Froth Flotation, Sigma Mixture, Ball Mill, Plate and Frame Filter, Cyclone Separator, Hammer Mill, Jaw Crusher, Batch Sedimentation, Sieve Shaker are available for experiments where students understands various operations such as solid fluid separation, size reduction, size separation, clarification, etc.
Industrial Pollution Control laboratory provides the facilities required to assess the quality of the raw water, treated water, sewage water and industrial effluent. Various experiments and procedures studied in this lab work introduce students to various allowable norms required to maintain the successful environment protection through safe supply of process water and discharge and disposal of effluents into the environment.
Process control Laboratory introduces students to the basic knowledge of response of a system which interact each other and which do not interact with each other using liquid Level equipments. Apart from understanding the response of a system through transfer functions, various controllers such as P, PI, PD & PID are used to introduce students to controller tuning widely used in the Chemical process Industry. Matlab® and Process flowsheet simulation software CHEMCAD® is also used to study control of process to study control of process
The computer lab has been recently modernized with the inclusion of computing facilities of latest specifications. Students are taught the basic use of computers and programming in their second year, and their applications in chemical engineering problems in subsequent years. In addition, students use computer lab for their assignments and presentations in all other courses and make use of the knowledge available on the internet for project and seminar activities.Process Flow-sheeting simulation software CHEMCAD along with various other open source chemical engineering software are installed on to systems that can solve wide range of chemical engineering problems and scientific calculations.
Chemical process and allied industries involve many operations where heat is removed from the process or added to the process. This phenomenon is studied in heat transfer operations. Efficient transfer of heat results in efficient operation of many process equipments such as chemical Reactors, Distillation Columns, and Heat Exchangers etc. The heat transfer laboratory is equipped with instruments to familiarize students with various modes of heat transfer enabling them to understand and apply the basic fundamentals for the smooth running of process in industry.
Students get the understanding of theory and practical problems of fluid flow phenomena through many experimental set-ups. Laboratory has many models of pipes, pumps, valves and fittings used in fluid flow operations
Department has a big hall equipped with modern PA system and LCD projector which is main venue for Gust Lectures, Workshops, Professional Society student chapter activities etc. This seminar hall has a seating capacity of more than 100 students/delegates at a time.
Second year chemical engineering students visited the industry “Probus International LLP” in Paithan, Aurangabad on 2nd August 2019. This company is owned by alumnus of Chemical Engineering Department, Mr Vasant Hingnikar. During the visit students observed and understood the advanced separation process to extract essential oils from medicinal plants, seeds and other biomass. Mr Hinginikar keenly explained the process (operated at very high pressure) to all students. Students were very excited to see actual chemical process plant for the first time.
Third year chemical engineering students visited Food Industry “Cowland Agro Pvt.Ltd.” in Chikalthana, Aurangabad on 19 September 2019. This industry visit was mainly arranged for students as they study an Elective Subject “Food Technology”. During the visit students observed and understood various operations in Dairy Industry i.e. Pasteurization, Heat Exchange, Bottling of product, steam generation etc. It was a fully automated Plant and student understood theprocess automation, piping layout, insulation and support for equipments. Plant Supervisor thoroughly explained all the processes to students.
Chemical Engineering Department under the activities of MoU with Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Aurangabad as a part of which a Guest Lecture-cum-Public Awareness session on “Plastic Waste Management &Recycling Techniques” was arranged for Second, Third and Final year students on 30 September 2019. Dr BelimAkhtar and Mr Seturaman, faculty members of CIPET explained necessity of plastic recycling through Videos and presentations. Students understood the difference between various types of plastic which can be recycled and which cannot. They also allowed our second year students to undergo 2 weeks of Internship at CIPET during winter vacation.
Final year chemical engineering students visited the on-campus Sewage Treatment Plant and Effluent Treatment Plant being operated by Mahatma Gandhi Mission. During the visit students studied both Sewage Treatment and Effluent Treatment processes and understood various waste water treatment plant design aspects i.e. Aeration unit, Sedimentation unit, Filtration unit and Piping layout for the visit.
